How to remove N 73 housing

Tools required: Plastic shim such as a guitar plectrum or credit card
  • First remove the battery cover, battery, memory card and sim. Now push your plastic shim into the join at the top of the phone to lift the front cover out slightly. Then run the plastic shim along both sides of the cover to unclip it at these points too

The official service manual for this phone may also help you with further Nokia N73 disassembly.

simply
1. Remove the battery cover, battery, SIM card & memory card

2. Carefully, using the correct tool, prise off the front cover (I didn’t need to take extreme care doing this, as a new housing was being fitted, but if you are not replacing the housing, you will need to take alot of care not to mark anything when removing)

3. Remove the keypad, along with the front cover

4. There are 6 torx screws (T-6), two above the screen & 4 round the keypad assembly, remove these (you will need a T-6 screwdriver)

5. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, carefully prise off the clear plastic cover that holds the keypad PCB in position, it is held by 4 clips, one in each corner

6. The keypad PCB/joystick assembly will now flop free – you have to carefully prise off the little joystick PCB from the main chassis, as it is held down with an adhesive pad

7. Remove the little plastic memory card slot cover

8. Now remove the display screen – this is retained by a metal frame secured by 4 clips onto the main chassis-plate, once removed, carefully unplug the display ribbon cable multi connector from the main PCB (Wrap the display in something!)

9. You can now unplug the keypad/joystick assembly ribbon cable from the main board & remove completely

10. There is one more T-6 screw, holding the main chassis plate onto the middle housing, remove this, you can now remove the chassis plate (you will also have to unplug the front camera ribbon cable from the main board), remove the grey chassis plate .

11. Now lift out the main PCB carefully & wrap in in something.

12. There is a small sub-assembly located in the front of the middle housing, containing the flash, on/off button etc etc, this just prises out.
